Lipps Inc 는 프로듀서 Steven Greenberg 에 의해

미네아폴리스에서 만들어진 Studio 밴드로 리드싱어

Cynthia Johnson 을 제외하곤 멤버가 유동적이었다.

25년이 지난 요즘에도 자주 접할 수 있는 그룹의 대표곡,

Funkey Town 은 1980년에 전미챠트 4주간 1위 ,

영국챠트 3위에 오르는 큰 히트를 기록했었던

디스코 시대의 마지막을 장식한 명곡이다.

블론디를 정상에서 끌어내리고 5월 마지막주부터 6월 셋째주까지

넘버원을 차지한 곡은 디스코 밴드 Lipps Inc의 Funkytown입니다.


1980년 당시 디스코의 붐을 타고 미국 히트 차트를 석권하자

팝스계의 화제가 되었으며, "립스 잉크"에게는 플래티넘 까지

획득하는 커다란 영광을 안겨준 곡


미국에서 넘버원을 차지했던 마지막 디스코음악이라 할 수 있는 곡.

제가 어린시절 한국에서는 이곡이 '번개탄'이라 불리우기도 했어요.

아주 신나고 좋은 음악이죠.


오리지널 버전보다는 Pseudo Echo의 86년커버 버전을 좋아합니다.

80년대 중반 당시 횡행했던 뉴 웨이브 뮤직이라든가

헤비메탈적인 기타 솔로가 작열하는 멋진 커버 버전이었죠.
